Geeky Organization

I've played around with Google calendar now and again, but never seriously used it for anything. Today, I messed with it with the idea of using it to track family events and schedules in mind.

The first thing I noticed is that, instead of categories, you have multiple calendars. I created one for the family in general, one for my work, and one for everything else.

Also important to me is synchronization. Unfortunately, Google falls a little short of my high bar, here. You can import calendar settings into Google through an exported CSV file. I don't see any way to export data out of gCalendar, but I haven't really searched that end, either. What I really want is to be able to enter calendar events from my smartphone, have them show up on Google, and have Google beep me for selected reminders.

I want solutions to do the busy work for me, so that I can just use it. I don't want to have to repeatedly re-enter or import and export stuff all the time.
